It isn’t often that I get one month old babies that sleep as well as this little guy slept. He was awesome. He came, he ate, and he conquered! I loved it! And can you believe all that blonde hair? I could gush and gush…AND gush, about all his beautiful blonde hair, and tell you that fair skinned babies that are going to be blondes often don’t have hair when they’re born! This sweet sweet little buddy slept almost the entire time he was with me, and hardly made a peep!

Preparing for your newborn session

Once you book a newborn session with me, I send you a letter, thanking you for your business, and sending some tips and tricks to arriving for a photo ready newborn! A few minor things, like keeping baby awake for a bit before our session, and what time to feed, can make all the difference in the world. Most newborn sessions are done between days 5-14, but I’ve had great success with babies up to 1 month old, so if you’re getting around to scheduling a little later than you meant to, please don’t let your little ones age be the thing that stands in your way!

I try to schedule the majority of my newborn sessions for in the morning, generally from around 9:30-12:30. Not all sessions last the entire 3 hours allotted, but some babies are just more sleepy and move from pose to pose very easily, while others take a lot longer to fall into a deep sleep, and wake when transitioning from one position to the next. I try to be very in tune with what every baby needs, and if I sense that your baby is hungry, or just needs a mommy snuggle break, we stop to eat or snuggle.

I also do 90% of my sessions diaper free. I’m only saying this, because every single baby that comes into my studio either pees, poops, or both on at least one of my blankets or props. I expect this, and if they didn’t, I’d probably be surprised! I wash everything that was touched at all during a session once the session is over.
