When Sweet Charlie came to see me, as an Atlanta newborn photographer, he was right around 10 days old. What a sweet, and BEAUTIFUL baby boy! Looking back at my Christmas Tree Farm Minis, I realized that I hadn’t even blogged Charlie’s session yet…and he’s now 5 months old! Shameful, I know!

How To Prepare for your Atlanta Newborn Photograher session

Charlie was such a sweet, and easy little guy. Prior to all of my newborn sessions, I send parents a “prep” guide. I realize that saying things like ” keep your baby awake” may sound crazy, but my BEST baby clients are babies whose parents followed the parent prep! Once baby is born, we usually schedule the newborn session for sometime during the first two weeks of life. Since I have younger kids as well, I do all of my newborn sessions Monday-Friday between 9:30 and 12:30. Most newborn sessions last between 2-3 hours. Occasionally, I’ll get one of those super easy, unicorn babies, that breeze through their session in an hour and a half, but this is more the exception than the rule!

How to Pick Your Newborn Photographer

There are many newborn photographers out there, and picking the right one for you can be quite a task for new parents. Whoever you pick, be sure that safety of your baby is their number one priority. I have attended newborn posing workshops and have been trained in safe baby handling and posing. Much of my newborn photography style is “baby led.” What this means is that while I do have a workflow of set ups that I do, or poses that I usually use, if your baby is fussing, or seems to dislike them, I move on and follow your babies lead.

I also have LOTS of own props. If you want a variety of outfits to be offered, backdrops, beds, bowls, blankets, headbands, and hats, it’s good to make sure you are choosing a photographer that has plenty of their own stuff. I spend a lot of money keeping my prop collection up to date.
