When I first started out in photography for other people 8 years ago, I never would have imagined I would end up loving newborn photography. Back in the day, I was terrified of newborns. It was hard for me to get them to sleep very well, and didn’t know how to pose them. Usually, I would get them in a semi-decent position, and then use all 15-20 of my props on the baby in the same position. It wasn’t great. But since new parents are generally over the moon for their babies, no one thought anything of it.

Fast forward to this year…I took a leap and decided to attend a workshop in Oklahoma. I had never left my husband with all 4 of our kids. After thinking it over, it felt like if I was ever going to make the push into newborns I should do it. The workshop was amazing, and I really learned how to safely pose newborns. We also learned several soothing techniques, and several tips and techniques to add those finishing touches to my photos of newborns. From editing their skin, to posing them properly so that they look relaxed rather than about to fuss. I do still really enjoy photographing families and toddlers, but newborn photography is becoming one of my favorite types.

Babies are really only newborns for a few short weeks, and it is so special to me to be able to capture those sweet little baby features. From their snuggly little bodies, to their lips, fingers, and toes. I love capturing those sweet little details.
