Atlanta Newborn Photographer
This sweet girl is and her beautiful eyes definitely made my job as an Atlanta newborn photographer easy! Miss Amelia was so alert for her first picture that I actually worried she might not sleep at all. If you HAVE to have an awake baby, an awake baby with great eye contact is the best.
Parent Shots
With every newborn session, I offer the option of parent shots. It doesn’t usually take more than 15 minutes, particularly if there aren’t siblings involved. One of my favorite things to see when I look back at newborn sessions when I’m editing is how absolutely over the moon new parents are for their babies. It never fails, and I love seeing it.
Session Flow
Not all of my newborn sessions look the same, but I do have a “routine” that I tend to stick to. I like to do parent shots first. That way, mom and dad can pop into the studio, get a feel for everything, and get to know me a little better while we do the parent shots. I feel like this helps people be more comfortable about handing over their new babies. Also, this way, parents can kick their feet up and relax for the remainder of the session. After the parent shots ( or parent and sibling if there’s a sibling involved), I like to move to bean bag shots. I use the word “bean bag” very loosely because I’m not actually using a bean bag anymore! Either way…I move to the bean bag type shots. Ideally, baby is sound asleep..but if not, I’ll swaddle and get started!
Prop shots
Usually, prop shots are the last shots I do in a session. Baby is often swaddled for the majority of the prop shots. This makes it easy to have at the end, because baby is often starting to wake up and stir. The majority of these shots are fairly easy for me, since baby is already swaddled and I’m just making a few minor adjustments.
I love her sweet little grin in this image. She also had beautiful long eyelashes!
Grinning again! I’ve been specializing in newborns long enough that I can usually tell when they’re about to smile, and can get ready to try to capture it. I love catching a newborn smile!
Last but not least, a simple swaddle with a bonnet and then a headband for totally different looks. I have lots of props, outfits, bonnets, hats, headbands, and rompers in my studio. If you’d like to talk more about booking your newborn session, click here to contact me today!
