As and Atlanta family photographer, I am constantly trying to get the moms in front of the camera! In honor of Mother’s Day, this post, is dedicated to all the moms. Not just the moms that are in the pictures with this post, ALL of the moms.
I have been a mom for a little over 9 years now. I can honestly say, I have ALWAYS wanted to be a mom. At church, I was the kid that was waiting at the nursery door for the parents to pick up their babies, hoping that someone would let me hold their kid! When I was 12 years old, I started babysitting for neighbors kids, and older kids that went to our church. As long as I can remember, I have always loved and enjoyed kids. Being a mom, was just always something that I knew would happen, one way or another. When our oldest was a whopping 16 months old, we welcomed baby #2 into our family. Twenty-six months later, we welcomed our only daughter, and 2 years after that we were surprised to find out on her second birthday that we were expecting baby number 4.
Getting moms in FRONT of the camera
Moms are most often the ones taking the pictures. Whether or not you’re a professional photographer, the story is the same. Moms are taking the pictures, trying to capture the moments, and are often left out of the picture. Most of us feel the same way, “I’ll be in the pictures next year, after I lose some weight”, etc…there are countless excuses. Here’s the thing..your kids love you right now, just the way you are. Your kids think their mommy is beautiful no matter what. Our kids don’t look at us and think “man, if my mom would just lose those last 10-20 pounds, then I’d really love her!” They just don’t do it! They think their mommies are beautiful, and that alone is worthy of being celebrated and remembered.
Often at a session, moms want just pictures of the kids, or even just family pictures. You will never regret having captured that special moment with your child or children. Even the pictures that we take that I don’t totally love myself in, I treasure because we were all there. Sometimes, that’s what it’s about. We were all there.
Life is short, get in the picture!
It probably sounds a little odd to talk this way, but life is short. I try to remind myself that if something were to happen to me, my youngest two kids are currently 3 and 5 years old. Their memories of me would fade over time, but the pictures they have, would last them forever.

Here is my very own example of me jumping in the photo with my children. Obviously, they are dressed very cute…we were at the beach on vacation, and I was in photographer mode, and had planned only to photograph the kids.
