Every now and then, things don’t go quite according to planned, and a “newborn” I planned to photograph, ends up being 7 weeks old and we change things to a lifestyle session.  Sweet Olive surprised her parents by making her big debut while they were on their baby moon at the beach.  They don’t live at the beach!  They live in TN!  Her mama’s water broke while they were on their vacation, and her parents started driving with the hopes of making it back to a town with a good NICU.  They made it about halfway home before Olive was born.  She spent a couple of weeks in the NICU, and came home completely perfect and beautiful.  Obviously, since she came a little early, and spent time in the NICU, we weren’t able to do her newborn photos right away.  We changed the flow of the session to more of a lifestyle session, and things went beautifully.

Lifestyle Session vs Posed Session

More often than not, I photograph posed newborn sessions.  This however, had much more of a lifestyle feel.  Babies that are 7 weeks old aren’t quite as bendy as babies that are 7 days old, and since I had traveled to Nashville to do her session, I had less of my normal stuff, but that didn’t matter. We were still able to capture some beautiful photos of sweet Olive in an in home session.  Lifestyle sessions are natural light, and capture baby in a more natural environment.  Even though I don’t do as many lifestyle sessions, I do really enjoy them!

Lifestyle sessions generally take a little less time, and often incorporate mom, dad, and siblings in the photos as well.  I look at lifestyle photos as  more of a documentary session, capturing the details of your life, your home, etc.
