Atlanta Family Photographer

As an Atlanta Family Photographer, I get the  opportunity to hang out with some of Atlanta’s cutest and most fun families.  This was such a fun session for me!  I photographed this family in the fall, to capture miss Abigail’s 6 month photos.  Time flew, and that sweet baby girl is now a year old!

Prior to each of my atlanta family photographer sessions, I usually try to ask my clients what they’d like the focus of their session to be.  This can be as simple as wanting mostly pictures of everyone together, to telling me what mixes and combinations you’d like to get out of your session.  When left up to me, I try to do some of everyone together, some of each child alone, the kids together, and parents alone.  After that,  if I see any other special moments, I try to capture those as well.

How to plan for your family session

Now that you’ve scheduled your session, there are a few things you will need to do to be ready for your session.  The first thing I suggest doing is selecting outfits.  I myself have 4 children.  Some of them are pickier than others about what they’ll wear and not fuss in.  Picking a color and outfits are a key step.  Once that is done, and we have settled on a date, just let me take care of the rest.  I am happy to help pick out outfits for your session if you’d like me to.

Time of day is another thing to decide on.  As far as lighting, the best light is at the end of the day..in the summer, this is around 6:30 or 7 p.m.  Very young children often have a hard time late in the day.  While I completely understand this, I do like to make it clear that most of my photos on my website, that have the beautiful lighting with the sun sparkling behind them, are done in the later part of the day.  This session, however, was done at about 8 a.m.  Morning sun is also very beautiful lighting. This sweet mama knew her gang well enough to know they would not make it until 6:30 or later, so I asked her if they could do 8 a.m. and she said no problem!

Stress Free Sessions

As an Atlanta family photographer, I try my very best to keep my sessions stress free for parents and kids.  Trust me, I get it.  Since becoming a photographer, we have hired someone else to do our family pictures 3 or 4 times and it is painful.  We usually stress out over how we look, how the kids look, and most of all, how the kids behave.  Please don’t stress out over your children’s behavior.  I’m a mom, I have 3 boys and 1 girl…I consider myself fairly savvy at getting unwilling children to smile and interact for their family photos.  If you have tricks to get your kids to giggle, I’m all ears.  Yelling at them to smile and behave, however, is not something I’ve ever seen work so please relax and let me handle the kiddos!
