Atlanta Family Photographer
I get to meet some of the cutest families in the area as an Atlanta Family Photographer. I met James and his parents last fall when I did his 1 year session. It is always so much fun for me to see how much kids change over time. James has grown so much.
James did so great for his session. He was playful, and busy, just as most boys are! Since I have 3 boys of my own, I was well prepared! We did his session in the morning, and his mom suggested this spot at a nearby lake. I totally loved it. I have actually been back to this location a few times since then and every time I love it even more!
When to book your family session
What time is the best time to book your family session? A lot of this depends on how old your children are. My favorite time of day is that last hour of daylight. However, we did this session at around 10 a.m., and as you can see, the lighting was beautiful. James was happy and fresh because it was early in the day, and this was the perfect time of day for him, for his session. As a parent, I get it that the end of day sessions can be very risky for young kids. My own family has attempted our share of end of day sessions, and some, I’ll admit, have gone less than as planned! I tell potential clients that my favorite lighting is at the end of the day, but that the first priority should be the time of day that your children will be the happiest.
How to Plan for Your Session
I am very experienced at working with young children, so I usually bring a few things with me to help keep their interest. My family sessions tend to be a combination of posed shots, and some candid moments as well. I think to expect children to behave perfectly and smile looking at the camera for 45 minutes to an hour is unrealistic. Parents becoming stressed out over the worry of not getting that perfect shot, only makes matters worse. Please, when you are planning to do a session with me, let me handle keeping your child’s attention. There isn’t much I won’t do to get a giggle out of a child. I’ve danced, barked, sang songs.. you name it!
